Laura Castañeda is an award wining cross-border journalist, film maker, video producer and faculty member in the San Diego area.

Emmy Award-wining journalist in San Diego

Laura Castañeda earned two Emmy Awards and an Emmy nomination during her broadcast career. Both awards (in 2004 and 2005) were for a human interest news magazine show she created called, Stories de la Frontera. Her final Emmy nomination was earned in 2008, for a documentary she produced called The Devil's Breath, the harrowing story about seven undocumented people who died in the 2008 Wildfires in San Diego.

Aside from her Emmy awards, Castañeda has also been honored for her work, by the Society of Professional Journalists-San Diego Chapter, The San Diego Press Club, the California Chicano News Media Association, The National Television Academy of Arts and Sciences-Pacific Southwest Chapter, and The Arizona Associated Press Broadcasters Association.
